I am Space Maker + Story CatcherI weave collages of dreams, moments, and possibilities The magic of imagination lives in my medicine bag
From this perspective I create HOME Drawing a feeling from my heart into physical reality From this perspective I see home as a stage to tell my highest story - to express my soul's gifts.
Our perspective is part of our imagination.
Our perspective is our outlook on life - our point of view, and it guides our imagination (where we create our thoughts and ideas). We get to choose how we want to live our life and how we react to each situation we encounter. Our imagination is one of our greatest gifts because it helps us to manifest a life we love, and when used intentionally it becomes the key to Inspired Living.
We are constantly imagining our life, so why not embrace the perspective of expansion, where we can can craft a life that we love and live our highest story - the path that allows us to connect with our passions and purpose. Imagining the best for ourselves and knowing we deserve it.
What if we viewed our home as a stage for our Soul to thrive? What if we imagine a home that nourishes us on this sacred journey because it is thoughtfully created?
Creating a home is a journey, just as life is. When I see life as a journey, I see every moment perfect just as it is (challenges and all). Perspective is often only clear in hindsight - It is about framing how we view our situation and reminding ourselves that life is always working out for us.
As I create space my aim is to take on an expanded view, and tell an authentic story through the layout and display. I believe in dedicating zones for rejuvenation and self-expression, and creating a home that works for you. I believe home is an ever-evolving story and it is never exactly finished.
For me that means displaying artwork that we create, posting inspirational text and images, displaying photos of special family moments. It means honouring the gifts given to us by friends for and displaying our family manifesto in the heart of our home. it also means knowing when to let go.
I was recently asked to participate in a house tour. My imagination explored doubts and restrictive questions: Is our house special enough? Have I been putting my own design techniques into practice? Our house looks nothing like the other tours. You know that little voice that challenges you and your confidence...
Then I recentered and remembered my intentional perspective - my core beliefs and I embraced the fact that we all have a unique story to tell, even me! I imagine a home that supports our family in living our best life - the life we dream of, no matter our location and the particular circumstances. The placement of furniture and collected treasures, and the weaving of memories and personal values into a space can become a sacred act, if we let it.
I began to ask more expansive questions. How do I tell our story through space? Through still frames? What perspective do I take? What becomes the focal point. What moments do I capture? How can I represent the life that each family member brings to the space?
When we release a restrictive perspective, we begin to see problems as opportunities, and answers in our questions. Each time we change our perspective we gain access to infinite choices. My home becomes my laboratory to explore these concepts and make them a reality.
Perspective Changes. The Story Evolves.
The story may come together quickly, but more likely it comes together over time. So one snapshot does not always do the story justice, but it starts to reveal the essence. This is the story the space tells today. The toys are packed away, the workspace has been cleared, and the dishes have been dried and stored. Our home is waiting for life to resume. But tomorrow holds something different - change is inevitable.
Intentions and Values Remain.
Space begins within and it comes from the heart. Space breathes deep when it has an authentic story to tell - space supports us on our journey. We are creating an authentic story because we consciously chose which elements stay. We choose objects that make us smile as we reflect on the stories they contain, the memories of happiness they evokes. They are symbols, a reminder. With my imagination I give each object its meaning. I edit and refine. I may recognise some parts are no longer in line with my current story, and I thank it and wish it well on its journey, it has served its purpose. What we believe to be true determines what we see. I connect to the stories that each collected treasure holds, and I honour it:
The small carved wooden statue given to us by a close friend as a gift when we first began our relationship - a symbol of love and connection. Artwork chosen together while we traveled in another country. Hand painted ornaments in the shapes of moons gifted to ourselves over the holiday season. Artwork created from dreams, and inspirational books.
That woven box picked up in a little shop in my hometown, that day when I decided to treat myself to something special. It once contained my new year's wishes and later became a God box (to store issues I had given up to God so I could release my worries over them) and now holds my son's amulets and treasures that have been gifted to him. It sits bedside.
Perspective expands.
We look back, a week has passed, a month has passed, a year has passed. Have we made the most of our space? It's never too late to start telling our highest story.
If there is a part of the story that no longer reflects the person you want to be, you can always change and grow! When you change your perspective you begin to see the beauty you create and live each day.
